John (Jack) Hardy attended Chichester High from 1954 to 1961. He was not among the top academics, but contributed in sports, perennially coming second to Jamieson in the Sports Day mile. He played rugby for the school, West Sussex and Sussex at the colt level. His main sport was football and he was top scorer for the First XI during his last four years, mainly due to the wiles and guiles of Steadman and Hampton. In one match, away to St. Vincent’s of Portsmouth, he scored 10 goals in a 13-4 victory.
Hardy then attended King Alfred’s College, Winchester from 1961-1964 and taught at Eaglecliffe Secondary Modern, Co. Durham, for 3 ½ years. In January 1968 he was employed by the Bahamas government as a teacher and during his first year was promoted to headmaster. He served at Sandy Point, Abaco; Duncan Town, Ragged Island; Roses, Long Island; North Andros High School; and Abaco Central High School. He retired in 2007 and lives near Marsh Harbour, Abaco.
Hardy’s retirement hobbies are gardening and watching sports, particularly ‘soccer’, on television. He has two daughters living the in the United States, and four daughters and one son living in Abaco.
