Summer Event
Visits in Chichester
Thursday 22 June 2023
This year’s Old Cicestrians summer event was in Chichester in June this year instead of an autumn date as in recent years. Numbers were up with over 20 booked originally. And at an earlier date, namely June rather than September. We started with a guided back-stage tour of the Festival Theatre visiting wardrobe and wig rooms and an actor’s dressing room and under the stage before we saw the stage from the auditorium seats. A fascinating exploration of the behind the scenes. The guides were friendly and most helpful in telling us about the problems of running such a popular theatre.
We then made our way to Priory Park for a leisurely delicious buffet lunch at Fenwicks Café with plenty of time for catching up with old friends.
After lunch walked to the Cathedral for a tour led by one of their expert guides.
Individual stained glass windows particularly the one by Chagall were explained and we viewed the famous Tapestries.
The weather was kind and we ended the trip with tea in the recently re-opened Cloisters Café, where the Peregrine Falcons were on display on the Cathedral.
