Michael Whittaker (CHSB 1956-1963)

Thanks for the welcome to the group! My eight years at the School left many memories so I will trickle feed as they come back to me. My joining was prompted by a recent stroll through the School grounds and the feeling of sadness as the state of the building. The gym, which was undoubtedly my favourite room, where first …

Hugh Allman dec’d 1927-2019 (CHSB 1937-1945)

Wednesday 3 April 2019 I am sure Uncle Hugh would want me to tell the Old Cicestrians that he went to his heavenly home this morning at 9 am. He had a stroke on 20th December 2018. As you know he had been blind for about eight years, if I judge time correctly. He then became unable to walk and …

Roger Chynoweth (CHSB 1955 -1962)

I believe the dates of these two photographs to be correct but I am not 100 per cent sure. They could be a year later in each case. The names are written in ink on the form photograph, so if they are not too clear, I will try to summarise below: (from left) Back row: Chris Lawrence, Keith Deeks, Rodney Castleden …

Hugh Allman (CHSB 1937-1945)

I was borne on 10 August 1927 at the Post Office Stores, Birdham. In September 1937 I started CHSB in Form Alpha with endless arithmetic under Mr Holland. I was in Form 2B when the War started. The younger male teachers were called-up for military service and were replaced by older men or even a lady. Frequent trips to the air-raid shelters …

Jack P Tupper (CHSB 1949-1956)

1. With a knowledge of National Service I joined the RNVR in 1955 and 1956 while still at school. 2. Served two weeks training in both of those years. 3. This is why I do not appear on the High School for Boys Prefects photograph for 1956 because I was away. 4. Head boy of the school 1956. 5. Somewhat …
